Shack Man heats a section of scalloped wall tubing to form it into an ornament for RMF members. We kicked the holiday season a lttle early this year with a blown boro ornament demo courtesy of Brian "Shack Man" Schmitt. Using Simax 30 mm scalloped wall tubing, he shaped 4 inch sections into beautiful Christmas ornaments using only the flame and his breath. After showing us a few variations, RMF members got to take a crack at it with the other torches in the Glasscraft classroom.
The finished ornmanets can be hung "as is," sandblasted, etched or even fumed with gold or silver. Regardless of how they are finished, each of these ornaments are one of a kind art and a lot of fun to make. And if you're friends with a memeber, you may just be getting one as a present!

Demos from guest artists and hands-on instruction are one of the perks of belonging to the RMF! Shack Man's ornaments will be auctioned as part of a group fundraiser early next year.

The highlight of our September meeting was a demonstration by Kim Fields of one her sculptural birds. Using only a photo, some soft glass and a few tools, Kim created a stunning toucan for us. The Glasscraft classroom was packed to capacity as Kim shared her secrets for adding fine details to make the bird look as realistic as possible.
Demos from visiting artists are one of the perks of joining the RMF! The demo bead will be auctioned as part of a group fundraiser early next year.
